The evening started off well when all the bands turned up on time and with the correct equipment, apart from the fact that no-one had brought a bass pedal for the drum kit, but that problem was sorted quickly and easily. Suicidal Mushrooms were the first to soundcheck, but they didn't have very much time as there were 4 other bands all equally as eager to soundcheck, and the time was pushing on, so they just played a quick run through of "False dreams" which was played as tight and as fluent as possible, which was suprising condsidering the fact that there were no moniters, so the band couldn't even hear them selves play. The Doors were opened at 7:00 and all 150 people came pouring in, and at 7:30 the whole crowd was ready and waitimg for Suicidal Mushrooms to take the stage, The band started off with a very funky Jazz song welcoming everyone to the gig and pretending that Suicidal Mushrooms were a Jazz band, the Jazz quickly ended and the band kicked on their distortion and kicked into a very punk filled set beginning with "Maybe one day" which got the crowd going as their pathetic attempt of trying to Mosh began (at least they were trying)the second song was "False dreams" which is one of the bands most catchy songs, went well without much error, as did the whole set, the band did make some mistakes which is only to be expected on a first gig, but in all honesty they covered them up well and no-one could of possibly noticed. They played nine songs all in all as that was all the time they were allowed, their last song was a great cover of the amazing Nofx song "scavenger type" But the band played their own version of this song as they added Bass and drums and at the end of the song they again kicked on their distortion for the last time that night and played a very fast paced punk rock version of the song EXCELLENT! |
